Teen Link Outreach &
Education Specialist
Full-Time Position
JOB SUMMARY: The Teen Link Outreach
& Education Specialist is primarily responsible for presenting the Youth
Suicide Prevention curriculum to junior and senior high school students;
addressing stressors, healthy coping mechanisms and effective strategies for
helping a friend in need. Additional
focus will be placed on raising awareness of the program’s services through
community outreach. Some phone line
supervision, program development and volunteer management will also be
expected.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED:

BA in social services
or related field preferred
·
Experience in working
with youth/ youth-serving agencies
·
Experience in mental
health/crisis intervention/telephone helpline
·
Experience delivering
trainings and presentations; public speaking background
·
Excellent written and
oral communication skills
·
Demonstrated commitment
to working with, and empowering, youth
·
WA State Driver’s
License, insurance and access to a car
·
Ability to work some
evenings and weekends
STARTING
SALARY: $12.00 hr., plus medical and dental insurance,
vacation, sick leave, holidays and personal leave days.

TEEN LINK OUTREACH & EDUCATION SPECIALIST
A. PHONE LINE
SUPERVISION (15%)
Supervise
Teen Link help line (approx.1- 2 shifts per month)
Provide
emotional support, specific behavioral feedback and assistance with
community resource referrals to teen phone workers on shift.
Provide
debriefing as necessary for teen phone workers after calls/shifts.
Assess
needs, problems, concerns of phone workers and clearly communication
those to Youth Services Manager.
Assure
accurate data collection of calls by teen phone workers and evaluate teen
phone workers, as assigned by Youth Services Manager.
Assist
with evening projects, such as mailings and volunteer inquiries, as
assigned by Youth Services Manager.
B. COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND EDUCATION (60%)
1.
Deliver youth suicide prevention presentations and Teen Link
program presentations to schools and youth-serving community agencies.
2.
Represent program by staffing booths at youth serving
community events and fairs (requires weekend flexibility during summer months)
3.
Foster collaborations with schools and other youth-serving
organizations, particularly those that serve ethnic minority youth.
4.
Recruit teen/adult volunteers for Youth Suicide Speakers
Bureau
5.
Assist in production and distribution of the Where to Turn
for Teens resource guides and other program materials.
C. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT & VOLUNTEER
MANAGEMENT ASSISTANCE (15%)
1.
Assist with orientation, screening, recruitment, and
retention of volunteers.
2.
Assist in training of teen volunteers, both at the Crisis
Clinic and in the community.
3.
Work with Youth Services Manager to continue developing
strategies, collaborations, and training for anti-oppression/anti-racism work.
4.
Assure accuracy of volunteer program and volunteer data
entered.
5.
Maintain and enter data for YSSB database and caller
demographics.
