Telephone Services

Trained staff and volunteers operate our telephone services with the goal of providing effective answers.

At Crisis Clinic, we respond to each of our callers with care and sensitivity.
We can communicate with callers in 155 languages through the interpretation assistance of Tele-Interpreters Language Service and with persons with hearing impairments through our TDD.

24-Hour Crisis Line
Are you, or someone you know, experiencing:
• Anxiety or loneliness?
• Family or relationship difficulties?
• Symptoms of mental illness?
• Loss of a job?
• Health concerns?
• Abuse?
• Thoughts of suicide?
• Alcohol or drug abuse?

The 24-Hour Crisis Line offers immediate help to people in emotional crisis. It is the third-oldest 24-hour crisis line in the nation and one of only four crisis intervention services in the State of Washington that has passed the rigorous accreditation standards of Contact USA, Inc. The 24-hour Crisis Line is a unique resource for family and friends of persons with mental illness or those considering suicide. We can help people determine if the behaviors they are observing warrant further professional consultation and link them with a suitable agency for help.

24-Hour Crisis Line staff is primarily comprised of volunteer phone workers. All volunteers complete over 55 hours of professional training before receiving any calls. They are skilled and caring phone workers who talk with callers about their concerns, help them sort through their feelings, explore coping strategies and make appropriate referrals for additional assistance. Our phone workers offer immediate, confidential assistance and are supervised by mental health professionals during each shift.

The majority of callers are seeking housing, emergency shelter and other basic needs, such as food and clothing assistance. The 2-1-1 Community Information Line operates the Bed Bank which tracks openings at various shelters for women and families. This enables staff to direct callers to the shelter most suitable for them.

Teen Link
Are you a teen who:
• Has had your heart broken?
• Has difficulty getting along with your parents?
• Sometimes feels like an "outsider”?
• Wants to know where to hang out in the evenings?
• Has questions about pregnancy?
• Wants to talk about your anger and frustration?
• Is using drugs and/or alcohol?
• Needs to talk about school issues?
• Thinks about killing yourself?

Teen Link is a special program dedicated to the youth in our community. The purpose of Teen Link is to prevent teenage violence, suicide, drug and alcohol abuse, family and relationship problems, pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and depression by supporting and empowering youth to make healthy, self-respecting decisions on their own.

Teen Link operates a help line for youth every evening from 6:00-10:00 PM. Calls are answered by teen volunteers, ages 14 to 20, who have completed extensive training and are professionally supervised. The Teen Link help line provides youth with a confidential, safe place to vent anger, express fears and anxieties, and seek comfort and support. Our volunteers offer caring, skilled assistance to their peers, helping them talk through their concerns and explore their options.

Teen Link staff and volunteers also give youth suicide prevention presentations to middle school and high school students throughout Seattle and King County. Each year we speak to more than 5,000 youth, ages 12-19, about recognizing the signs of suicide and how to find help. It is our goal to spread the message that suicide is preventable!
